Question:
Why won't I get the same results from TAB?
I have had luck with the scale you have in your book. I can play
forward and backward fairly fast and accurately. I was wondering why I
would not have the same luck with guitar tabs?
Answer:
The reason why I'm approaching learning and playing the
guitar without using TAB is long term you really need to know what's
going on under your fingers in order to keep making progress. To put it
another way ...."if you don't know what you're doing, why bother doing
it?"
With EXPRESS GUITAR I'm setting things up for the guitarist to know :
1/ the names of the notes on the guitar
2/ the names of the notes in the various scales (e.g., the A
minor pentatonic scale consists
of the notes: A, C, D, E, G)
3/ the names of the notes in each chord (C chord contains the
notes: C,E, G)
4/ How to improvise
5/ How to develop their own individual style
The player who is only familiar with TAB can only copy
..............because they never learnt the basic's of music as applied
to the guitar. So, TAB is really neither good nor bad it depends
entirely upon the student and how seriously they take their guitar
playing.

As
a student of Mike Hayes since 1999, I have found his teaching methods
and products to be first class. Whatever style or area of music I have
been interested in, he has provided me with useful information, advice
and study materials. His style of teaching and teaching products
enabled me to progress through his guitar course far quicker than I
ever imagined. He also helps in teaching yourself to find and develop
your own style of music. Mike’s teaching gives his
student’s the ability to become useful musicians, not just
guitarists.

This
course teaches us how to learn, how to retain, and how to recall
information quickly. This entire program is built around "connected
learning" with key phrases, picture words ( yes there is such a thing )
and the most dynamic personal motivator I have ever had the pleasure of
knowing.

The
course is varied, in-depth and well-structured, making learning and
comprehension fast, thorough and enjoyable. It’s a great way of
learning, as you can pace yourself and move onto the next stage when
you feel competent. I find this course both innovative and
inspirational. I find myself leaving Mike’s lessons with the
determination to reach my new goals.
