Guitar Lessons: Beginner
The fastest way to learn to play guitar by ear is to read music - find out why.
|
Question:
How
to play guitar and how to read sheet music on guitar?
Answer:
That's an excellent question!
Actually learning to read music on the guitar is one of the
biggest stumbling blocks (and incidentally without a doubt one of
the most important subjects) guitarists encounter.
There's no shortage of guitar books however the vast majority
never teach you how to learn to read music.
Here's why:
(1) The typical music shop / sheet music outlet are basically
*paper merchants*(they're are in the business of selling books /
sheet music), they are NOT involved in EDUCATION that is not their
role.
(2)The type of "Learn To Play Guitar" widely available
via internet / offline music shops etc contain the same basic
kiddie tunes and songs you do not want to play! They essentially
contain these songs because they are *public domain* songs i.e.,
you do not have to pay copyright royalties to the original writer
of the song.
(3) Almost all of the books attempting to teach you how to read,
do not take the guitarist beyond the fifth fret on the first
string.
So in summary, I commend you for your question and I encourage you
to learn to read music on the guitar (it has been an invaluable
skill during my 36 years of playing).
If you are interested in learning to overcome these sight reading
hazards, I've written a book to get you there fast.

Rave Reviews for Express Guitar:
| As a student of Mike Hayes since 1999, I have found his teaching methods and products to be first class. Whatever style or area of music I have been interested in, he has provided me with useful information, advice and study materials. His style of teaching and teaching products enabled me to progress through his guitar course far quicker than I ever imagined. He also helps in teaching yourself to find and develop your own style of music. Mike’s teaching gives his student’s the ability to become useful musicians, not just guitarists. Stephen J Reid Guitarist & Musician Australia
This course teaches us how to learn, how to retain, and how to recall information quickly. This entire program is built around "connected learning" with key phrases, picture words ( yes there is such a thing ) and the most dynamic personal motivator I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.
Ken C Simpson Business Owner & Guitarist Queensland, Australia
The course is varied, in-depth and well-structured, making learning and comprehension fast, thorough and enjoyable. It’s a great way of learning, as you can pace yourself and move onto the next stage when you feel competent. I find this course both innovative and inspirational. I find myself leaving Mike’s lessons with the determination to reach my new
goals.
