Learning The Guitar Fretboard
By Mike Hayes | January 11, 2008
Learning the guitar fretboard is essential for any long term progress on the guitar. Any serious student must know and be able to instantly recall every note on the entire fretboard.
Start with the first string (this is the thinest string, the one closest to the floor when you are playing the guitar).
- First string open => E
- First fret => F
- Third fret => G
- Fifth fret => A
- Seventh fret => B
- Eighth fret => C
- Tenth fret => D
- Twelfth fret => E
Notice how the first string open and the first string twelfth fret, both share the same letter name.
