Learn Guitar Online – Your Solution For Learning Guitar
By Mike Hayes | October 10, 2009
I believe studying song templates to be the absolute best way to
learn to play the guitar. The majority of people learning the guitar are unaware of the fact that many popular songs are based
on a small number of song templates.
A few ways to learn guitar are …
1. TAB sites – definitely not recommended; if you are serious
about playing the guitar avoid this option like the plague! TAB
sites are promoted as the “fix-it-all-in-five minutes” solution
for everyone wanting to learn the guitar.
The idea of TAB is not a new idea; it’s hundreds of years old!
By the way … every time TAB reared it’s ugly head in the past
it’s only contribution been to create a group of musical ‘fringe
dwellers’ who spent the rest of their life trying desperately to
re-invent the musical wheel.
The reason for TAB’s recent resurrection and popularity is the
brain child of mass music merchandising in an attempt to sell
guitars to everyone on the planet.
Once the new guitarist has bought their instrument the job of the
music company is done; too bad if you spend the rest of your life
chasing your tail, becoming more confused each passing day until
you eventually sell your guitar and take up something else.
2. A friend who plays – depending on the ability of your guitar
playing friend this can be a good way to learn; it all hinges on
your pal’s knowledge of (a) the guitar and (b) music.
Often the most common problem is the guy or girl you are
looking to for musical direction learn a few songs (badly) by ear
or from TAB (and we already know there’s trouble ahead there!) so
it’s often a case of the blind leading the blind.
By selective and it might just work out for you.
3. A private teacher – studying with a competent teacher is a
great way to learn. If you have access to a expert teacher I
highly recommend this option.
The main points to consider are:
(a) does the teacher teach the style of music you way to play?
(b) has the teacher had success with previous students?
(c) does the teacher have a successful musical career?
If the answer to these questions is ‘no’, move on.
4 . Song Templates – the best way to learn! If you learn the
templates that hundreds of successful songs use … it’s a breeze to remember songs and learn new songs instantly.
Whether they know it or not; successful songwriters use these
musical templates everyday to craft their next hit … the trick
is to be able to recognize them.
I invite you to use these tips when you are learning to play
guitar.
