The best music comes from inside yourself - not from TABS
Guitar players can be divided into three categories:
1. Guitar Owners - To qualify for this category you simply have to have enough money to buy a guitar.
2. Guitar Players - Players in this group can move their fingers all over the guitar and are quite impressive to watch to the uninitiated. However because these guitarists are total strangers to the language of music they can never progress beyond these gymnastic displays. It's much like a guy who is running very fast in one spot … there's a lot of activity but he's not going anywhere.

Guitarists in this group are the prime target of musical instrument manufacturers who promote the following formula for getting into guitar. Mathematically stated, it looks like this:
Power chords + the Pentatonic scale + Tablature = music?
Even though this equation lets everyone in on the game without knowing anything about the basics of music…it's the old familiar story -
if you skip you will trip.
It's a short term solution that creates a long term problem.
As everyone knows the only place you can find short cuts is at the Butcher shop.
After 30+ years of teaching and playing as a professional guitarist, I'd have to say the equation truthfully looks more like this:
Power chords + the Pentatonic scale + Tablature = a confused player who ends up selling his guitar in a garage sale and gives up music
forever.

3. Musicians who play guitar as their chosen instrument - these players are in short supply and high demand.
When you think of it, your guitar is really a tool for expression. It doesn't matter what colour or shape your guitar is or how loud you can play your guitar ......it's what you know about music and how you project yourself through the guitar to your audience that matters.
