Guitar Lessons: Beginner
Can a 40 year old with no musical background learn to play guitar - you bet!
wanted to ask you...if I can truly learn to play like you say. you
see i have no musical background at all. i also am over 40 yrs and
while I believe you can learn at any age. I think it is a little
harder the older you get. Also, I am right handed and I injured my
right hand at age twenty. I have all my fingers. but I have
limited use and feeling. I can pic the guitar with a pick, but i
don't know if i can do it without looking. will this hinder me?
(1) Yes, the main ingredient for a
successful guitar player, is that the player is self motivated,to
be perfectly honest I have never met a person who couldn't learn
how to play.
However, I have met a lot of people who didn't learn to play the
guitar. (externally motivated - players give up easily).
The distinction I want to make is :
The players who are *internally motivated* or self motivated
regardless of musical background ultimately become the players!!!
Remember the tortoise and the hare!
(2) Age, not an issue - my current students range from ten to
(3) No musical background - no problem, actuually could be a
distinct advantage. I prefer to teach students, who are starting
from the very start (a) because I don't have to undo bad habits
(b) I know for certain there are no musical *holes* in their
musical knowledge base.
(4) Your right hand fingers won't be an issue as long as you can
hold a pick, the problem would be more critical if you had issues
with your left hand. Having said that one of the most outstanding
Jazz guitarist's of all time Django Reinhhardt only had the full
use of two of his left hand fingers.
It goes back to what I said earlier .........if you really want to
play ...........nothing can stop you!!!

Rave Reviews for Express Guitar:
|As a student of Mike Hayes since 1999, I have found his teaching methods and products to be first class. Whatever style or area of music I have been interested in, he has provided me with useful information, advice and study materials. His style of teaching and teaching products enabled me to progress through his guitar course far quicker than I ever imagined. He also helps in teaching yourself to find and develop your own style of music. Mikeís teaching gives his studentís the ability to become useful musicians, not just guitarists.

This course teaches us how to learn, how to retain, and how to recall information quickly. This entire program is built around "connected learning" with key phrases, picture words ( yes there is such a thing ) and the most dynamic personal motivator I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.
